As the summer season eases and in preparation for the winter to come, we come together to celebrate the abundance and harvest of the sun’s ripened fruits. As the autumn winds gently blow and the leaves turn from green to veritable golden hues, we gather apples for cider freshly made using the apple press, we enjoy a community potluck and celebrate with games and crafting. YRCS hosts a festive day, during a school day, to enjoy music, dance and witness the annual performance of “Sir George and the Dragon,” by our 2nd grade class.
A parade to drumming and song invites each student to offer food and flowers to the harvest table. These offerings are received and are re-distributed to families in need and to our local food banks. We celebrate and prepare for the winter season just around the corner.
