Mr. Pegg has been a full-time classroom teacher at YRCS for six years, bringing his deep love of history, science, math, art, and languages into the classroom. Before joining YRCS, he taught for 11 years at River Oak Charter School in Ukiah, making him a seasoned Waldorf educator with a passion for interdisciplinary learning. He holds an A.A. in Liberal Studies from Cabrillo College, a B.A. in Language Studies from UC Santa Cruz, a California Teaching Credential with BCLAD certification from CSU Chico, and a Waldorf Teacher Certificate from the Center for Educational Renewal. In addition to his formal education, he has a supplemental authorization for teaching Spanish, further enriching his diverse skill set.

For Mr. Pegg, teaching is the most important job in the world. He finds immense joy when students take what has been presented and make it their own. He believes the Waldorf curriculum is both engaging and challenging, requiring him to teach different material each year. To prepare, he goes beyond traditional research, using drawing and painting to deeply connect with the subjects he teaches, fostering enthusiasm that he brings into the classroom. His favorite part of the school day is Main Lesson, where he gets to dive into rich, immersive learning experiences with his students.

Originally from Spokane, Washington, Mr. Pegg lived in Columbus, Ohio; Ventura, CA; and Lenexa, KS before attending high school in Calabasas, CA. Now, he enjoys life on a five-acre homestead in Penn Valley with his wife and two children, both of whom attend YRCS. Their family works toward sustainability with a large garden, a small orchard, and plenty of outdoor projects. Outside of teaching, Mr. Pegg loves spending time in nature and creating art, and he has a unique hobby—he owns four chainsaws and spends a lot of time cutting trees, bucking firewood, and clearing land. He finds inspiration in the words of Walt Whitman: “For I am mad with devouring ecstasy to make joyous hymns for the whole earth.” If he could have lunch with anyone, he would sit with Walt Whitman and share poetry, though he would also love to meet Jesus, Buddha, or Lord Rama for their wisdom and spiritual guidance. Mr. Pegg is honored to be part of YRCS’s vibrant community and looks forward to continuing his journey of learning, teaching, and inspiring.
