Erika has been supporting students at YRCS for four and a half years, working in the speech therapy office and learning center. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and a Master of Science in Communicative Sciences and Disorders. Her journey into speech therapy began with her experience as a preschool teacher, where she discovered a passion for helping children develop their communication skills. She is drawn to YRCS for its emphasis on learning through the seasons, the magic of the festivals, and the intentional approach to education without screens. Erika strives to make each student feel special and seen, fostering a growth mindset that will serve them throughout their lives. Her work focuses on helping students grow in speaking, listening, and socializing, all essential skills for their future.

One of her favorite parts of the day is connecting with colleagues and engaging with students in playful and meaningful ways. Erika grew up in the small town of Covelo in Mendocino County and still finds joy in simple, grounding activities. A lifelong reader, she always has a book in hand. She also enjoys gardening, cooking, baking, and knitting—though she admits knitting can sometimes be frustrating! A fun fact about Erika is that she was almost born in Southeast Asia. One of her favorite quotes is from Leonardo da Vinci: “I’m still learning.” If given the chance, she would love to have lunch with Boudicca, the ancient British warrior queen, to hear firsthand about the experiences of women leaders in history. She is grateful to be part of the YRCS community and is honored to support students as they grow in confidence and communication.
