Karin has been part of YRCS since 2015 and has served as Business Manager since 2018. She studied philosophy as an undergraduate and holds certifications in Montessori education, Spacial Dynamics (Waldorf Movement Training), and as a Charter Business Officer. Her journey at YRCS began when her daughter enrolled in first grade, leading her to become involved in Parent Council and dive into Rudolf Steiner’s vision of a Threefold Society. She appreciates the direct societal impact of working at a school, especially within public Waldorf education, where every child is guaranteed an artistic and nourishing environment. Karin approaches her work with a balance of research, effort, and curiosity, managing the business side of a public charter school to ensure fiscal health, legal compliance, and long-term planning. She sees her role as a partnership with the pedagogical realm, helping to support and sustain the school’s mission and vision.
She finds joy in the rhythms of the school day, from the morning bustle as students and staff arrive to the quiet, reflective moments of sunrise and sunset on campus. Originally from the Peninsula, she spent twenty years in Atlanta before settling in Northern California. Outside of work, she enjoys caretaking for land, small construction projects, and artistic endeavors like watercolor and sewing. She also has a love for meandering road trips, wilderness weekends with friends, and the occasional circus arts adventure. A fun fact about Karin is that she was originally left-handed, but upon moving to Georgia, her new teacher only allowed right-handed students—so she adapted and became ambidextrous. One of her favorite phrases is “So it goes.” If she could have lunch with any historical figure, she’d choose Vandana Shiva, admiring her wisdom, brilliance, and humor. Karin feels that this time, place, and community at YRCS is immensely special, filled with moments of both inspiration and challenge. She sees ripples of light emanating from everyday interactions and believes wholeheartedly that every day is worth it.
