Summer Access: Community Meals

Nevada County offers several options for access to summer meals, including the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The Grass Valley School District, in partnership with other entities, hosts the SSO at multiple locations, providing free meals to children up to 18 years old. The SFSP ensures that children in low-income areas have access to nutritious meals during school vacations.

Here are a variety of resources available within our local community:
  • The SSO is a federal and state-funded program that provides meals during the summer to students who are in low-income areas. The Grass Valley School District is a key participant, hosting SSO sites at various locations, including the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

  • The SFSP is another federally funded program that ensures children in low-income areas continue to receive nutritious meals when school is out for 15 or more consecutive days.

  • This organization offers a summer lunch program at various apartment complexes throughout Nevada County for children aged 2-18.
