Excerpt from YRCS Parent Handbook:

“In our experience of teaching, we have observed that all forms of electronic entertainment, such as television, videos, movies, and computer and video games work directly against what we bring to the children in the classroom. The most recent scientific research verifies these observations – electronic media threatens the healthy development of children. Since young children are particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects of media exposure, we ask you to eliminate television watching and all electronic media for children under ten. For older children, please consider having your child forgo video and television viewing and computer usage on school nights. These technologies are recent introductions to human culture and may act as powerfully as any drug upon your child’s developing mind. Please contact your teacher to further discuss the idea of a media-free education and to make a plan to help your growing child establish healthy habits in relationship to electronic media. Even in middle school, keeping your child off the computer at night can be one of the biggest supports of their success at YRCS and in the future.”
