Ms. Yvonne has been a part of the YRCS community since 2013, first as a dedicated parent and then as a staff member in 2016. With a lifelong love for working with children—starting with her very first babysitting gig at age 12—she brings warmth, patience, and a touch of humor to her role as a Teacher’s Assistant. Her journey to YRCS was a happy accident. One day, she asked if the school needed substitutes, and before she knew it, she was officially part of the team! Since then, she has become an integral part of the classroom, providing invaluable support to both students and teachers. She thrives in YRCS’s unique curriculum and close-knit community, appreciating the way Waldorf education nurtures the whole child.

One of the most special aspects of her work is the personal connections she builds with students. She finds joy in one-on-one moments, where she can really listen, encourage, and help a child feel seen and supported. She also has a secret trick for making tough days a little brighter—on days when she’s feeling grumpy, she sends in her alter ego, Grampa Macias. His silly antics and playful energy never fail to make the kids laugh, which in turn lifts her own spirits.

Born and raised in Queens, NY, Ms. Yvonne spent her summers at camp in upstate New York, where she developed a deep appreciation for nature and simple joys. Outside of school, she enjoys cooking, baking, sewing, birdwatching, cloud-gazing, and spending quality time with her feline and human family. She holds close the words of Bob Dylan:
“Ah, but I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now.” If she could have lunch with anyone, it would be Pema Chödrön, whose wisdom, humor, and humility continue to inspire her on both personal and professional levels. Ms. Yvonne is grateful to be part of the YRCS family and looks forward to many more years of guiding, laughing, and growing alongside her students.
